Mixed Chicks Leave In Conditioner

7406311_origMixed Chicks was created by Wendi Levy and Kim Etheridge. They have successfully created ONE product for your hair. You heard me…ONE PRODUCT! Bye-Bye to the hair milk, elixir, leave-in conditioner regimen. It’s one product. One! The leave-in conditioner and styling cream are all in one product. Can I get an Amen!!! Hop out of the shower, rub it through my hair, and I’m on my way.

The concept of Mixed Chicks…”Whether you are black, white, asian, latin, mediterranean, or any glorious combination of the above” is one I love. At this point in America we are all a glorious mix of many things. Even “white” people are not purely from one European heritage. Of course, the complexities of race in American history make every single person of African descent mixed with another culture somewhere along the generational journey. Mixed Chicks hair is not only a product that works, it makes sense. There are curly hair girls from all backgrounds and this product works for each of them.

I’ve been using this product since 2008 when it was only available on the Mixed Chicks website. Now, these savvy business women have product distribution and are available in Target, Walmart, Walgreens and Duane Reed. It costs $19.99 for a 10oz. bottle. If you are switching from other products remember to compare the price of this one product to the price of all of the products you are replacing. For me…it replaced three products: a hair milk, a sealer and a leave in condition.

Tips for Use…

Use Enough Product

Mixed Chicks provides great curl definition and still leaves hair soft and touchable. The results vary with the amount of product you put on your hair. If you have thicker hair, you get the best results when you apply enough product in sections to your hair rather than simply rubbing it throughout your hair.

Using An Oil Sealant

Depending on how absorbent your hair follicle is you may want to apply an oil or sealant to wet hair before you apply the product. My hair is 3B and so I only use Mixed Chicks on my wet hair without anything else. However, others with 3C or 4 hair have expressed great results when Mixed Chicks is used t with a hair sealant under it. Examples of sealants are: coconut oil, grape seed oil, olive oil, shea butter and others.

Twist or Braid to Limit Shrinkage3590222_orig

If you are going to air dry, great! If you want to blow dry, you can do that too. In either case to limit “shrinkage” you may want to twist or braid your hair after applying the product on wet hair. Twist/braid while wet. The thicker your hair the more twisted strands you will need to eliminate the most shrinkage. I like letting my hair just air dry. For me, the more shrinkage the better defined the curls.
